ISMB 2026 is embedded in a uniquely mechanobiology-rich SynSci26 programme, with multiple federated events aligned around force, mechanics and physiology, making SynSci26 one of the most comprehensive and exciting mechanobiology meetings to date.
About ISMB. Launched in 2011 alongside the founding of the International Society for Mechanobiology (ISocMB) in Shanghai, the International Symposium for Mechanobiology has since been held in Okayama (2014), Singapore (2017), Sydney (2022) and Tainan (2024). The 2026 Glasgow meeting marks the 6th edition, continuing ISocMB’s mission to connect and grow the global mechanobiology community.
The PIEZOs Workshop, organised with The Physiological Society, adds a focused forum on mechanosensitive ion channels and mechanotransduction, strengthening the bridge between cellular mechanobiology and physiology. Details are available on the PIEZOs workshop page.
SynSci26 also includes two dedicated mechanobiology satellite sessions: In-silico mechanomedicine and Plant mechanobiology. Together with the core ISMB programme, these satellites broaden scientific depth and create exceptional opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

In-silico mechanomedicine Plant mechanobiologyISMB 2026 is organised into focused sessions that span fundamental mechanobiology, enabling technologies and translation towards health, disease and ageing.
Contributed talks and posters will be organised within these tracks, with additional cross-cutting sessions embedded in the wider SynSci26 programme.
We thank our technical sponsors for supporting specific sessions and activities.
Mechanobiology in Medicine (MBM) aspires to become one of the most prominent publishing venue in mechanobiology by bringing together the most important advances in the discipline, enhancing their visibility by means of opinion and news articles, and providing overviews of the state of the art in each field through topic-, disease- or technology-focused review articles.
ISMB 2026 is locally organised by the Centre for the Cellular Microenvironment (CeMi), a cross-institutional research centre bringing together mechanobiology, biomaterials, imaging, biophysics and engineering biology across the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde.
Dates subject to the organiser’s official announcements on the SynSci26 website.
The SEC is Scotland’s premier conference venue on the River Clyde—walkable to the West End and city centre.
